I had a very disappointing experience with Fremont Insurance. As a Michigan small business owner, I expected Fremont Insurance to honor the statement that they offer “exceptional service” to their Michigan insurance customers. The only reason I purchased insurance from them at all was based on their claims of exceptional service. I found this claim to be baseless. I have paid Fremont Insurance many thousands in auto insurance premiums over several years. I am a 53 year old who went for decades without any traffic citations, and had no accident claims for almost 20 years. In January of 2013, I received a speeding ticket. In July of 2014, I received a second speeding ticket. These citations cost Fremont Insurance nothing. I just received my insurance bill noticed a “ticket and/or accident surcharge”. Of $1,544.00. My premium without that surcharge would be $698.00. This surcharge increases my premium by over 220 percent! Outrageous... I contacted my local insurance agent that represents Fremont Insurance, Bob Knabush of Knabush Insurance in Ida, Michigan on Wednesday, November 12. He wasn’t there but called me back a couple hours later. I told him about this surcharge, and he said he would contact Fremont Insurance to discuss this matter. As of Monday, November 17, 2014, I have not heard back from him. This is not “exceptional service”. Furthermore, I have learned that surcharges for traffic tickets in the state of Michigan are arbitrary and charged by the insurance compay at whatever rate they believe they can get away with. I requested a quote from another insurance company and receive a much lower quote. Remember, these two speeding tickets over the course of almost two years did not cost Fremont Insurance one dime.I do not believe the claims of Fremont Insurance, and believe you can find much better service at better prices from other Insurance companies that serve the state of Michigan
