English & Spanish (keep reading)Cabanillas & Associates took our money for 2 years (approx $8,000), fed us lies, and did absolutely nothing to help us in the process of refinancing our home. Their only interest was in digging their hands deeper into our pockets and their best advice was to hand our keys over to the bank. We finally decided to look elsewhere and were able to save our house in the matter of 3 months with a different company. After the contract with them was finalized they charged our card $300 for services not rendered and without authorization and then refused to refund us that amount.

This place has been by and large the most frustrating and hurtful experience EVER. On January of 2018 I served my ex-wife custody papers. My children mean the world to me and I was determined to make sure my children were safe and well taken care of. Here’s where Cabanillas comes into the picture. First off I had an interview with Carmen. She was polite and very well spoken and at times she even showed signs of compassion. Don’t be fooled though this is all for show. She informed me that they charge a flat rate of $2500 dollars for a custody case. Keep in mind I have never been through anything like this before. At no moment in time did she explain to me the $2500 was only a retainer fee and I found this out when their finance department was contacting me every other day. I was highly emotional due to the nature of what was happening in my personal life so I signed the contract without noticing the fine print. I take full responsibility for that but I still feel Carmen should’ve broken down the financial aspect of it in a more honest transparent way. I found out the $2500 only covers the retainer fee and one court appearance. Any following appearances would be $750 per appearance. In total I went to court 4 times with Cabanillas. From the onset I pleaded to Carmen to please assign me a lawyer who was well versed in child custody cases and who would be reliable. She raved about a lawyer named Ralphy. He was assigned to me and I had ONLY one phone conversation with him the entire time he “covered” my case. I was not allowed to have his phone number and the only way to contact him was through his paralegal. My first court appearance Ralphy was not able to make it because he was too busy. He sent a paralegal to council on his behalf. The second court appearance he showed up for the quick 15 minute process and that’s the last time I would see or speak to Ralphy. The third court appearance once again, Ralphy sent another lawyer to council on his behalf. This lawyer was very nice but was not prepared for the many questions the judge ended up asking her. Between the first court date and the last court date I called Carmen and Ralphys assistant at least 20 times. I left messages and emails and NEVER once got a response. Whenever there was a change that required their attention they were not accessible. My ex-wife was trying to move away and I was desperate for advice and could not reach anyone. That was only one instance out of the many times I never received a call back or some kind of response. The fourth court date Ralphy never even showed up. The judge waited 38 minutes and I watched as my ex wife smirked the entire time. I was literally in tears and I could see how angry the judge was getting. I called the office and spoke to the paralegal and all she kept saying was “he’s on his way.” The court date was adjourned to another date due to Ralphys absence and the judge asked me to tell my lawyer that not showing up is very disrespectful to the court. I paid thousands of dollars for a service and received the poorest most unprofessional experience that I will never forget. Even after not showing up to court, I received zero communication from anyone at Cabanillas for an apology or even a phone call to coordinate the NEXT COURT DATE!!!!! Disgusted with this law firm.
