Emigrant did use to have interest rates so high that when I needed a little cash I could take it from the interest. Not any more. But they are still a good secure bank that you can trust.
Great for saving account!
EmigrantDirect is not bad. They have decent customer service, and their "high-interest" accounts actually did have high interest at one point. However, that has not been the case for several years. My experience is that EmigrantDirect signs up new customers with a high interest rate and then drops the interest rate to be lower than what you can find elsewhere. I asked about increasing the rates, even if for just being a long-term loyal customer, but they were not interested. Therefore I have a low interest, like the low interest that I receive, to keep a savings account that is ironically named "high-interest". I would give a higher rating if EmigrantDirect decides to rename their "High Interest Savings Account" with an accurate name, like "Low Interest Savings Account" or "High Interest Savings Account to Sign Up New Customers and then Later Become Low Interest Savings Account."
LONG LONG time ago had nice interest rates, like said before by someone else, probably just t get people to join.
