When signing up for Allstate car insurance they asked me if I had any claims with previous insurer, the answer was yes but with zero payout. They asked for a letter saying so in order to get me a better value, I did so and provided them with a letter from previous insurer saying there was a claim but there was zero payout. All good and purchased the insurance, paid 6 months upfront, later got a call saying underwriter says claims with zero payout are still claims, and you have to pay additional $500 to what you purchased. I disagreed, decided to switch to another company at month 3, they refunded remaining 3 months but kept the prorated portion of $500. The agent who sold me the insurance, nor their managers weren’t available all of sudden. I would’ve not agreed to go this route should they notify me when giving me sales speech. My current insurer didn’t charge me for a claim with zero payout from prior insurers.
